Dwight "Doc" Gooden is a former professional baseball pitcher renowned for his exceptional talent.

Gooden was drafted by the New York Mets as the fifth overall pick in 1982. He made his Major League debut in 1984 at the age of 19, quickly establishing himself as a dominant force. That year, he earned the National League Rookie of the Year Award and led the league in strikeouts.

In 1985, Gooden achieved one of the most remarkable pitching seasons in MLB history, securing the National League Cy Young Award and the pitching Triple Crown with a 24–4 record, a 1.53 ERA, and 268 strikeouts. He played a pivotal role in the Mets' 1986 World Series championship.

After leaving the Mets in 1994, he had stints with teams including the New York Yankees, where he pitched a no-hitter in 1996, the Cleveland Indians, the Houston Astros, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Gooden's impact on baseball remains significant. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 2010, and in 2024, the Mets honored him by retiring his number 16 jersey.
